Here’s how you can bring your students to chat with Peter.

1) Let us know you’re planning to attend.

Register at: http://tinyurl.com/thincCCpeter

The hangout will be broadcast “On-Air” and your students can submit questions via our form, but if you would like your class to connect to the Google Hangout so they can be seen by our guest and the student interviewers make sure to let Lance (Lance@PurpleFeetFoundation.org) know in advance so you can be invited to join the hangout.

Learn more about Peter before the chat.

Check out his site. Explore some of his books. Our favorite is The Dot! We begin each year of the thinc Program reading The Dot to set the tone for the week.

Today I had the opportunity to spend some time at the Willamette Egg Farm in Oregon learning about the inner workings of an egg farm. The first thing I learned was that there is a lot to learn. For instance, lighting is extremely important when it comes to taking care of hens. An interesting fact that I witnessed firsthand was that red lights actually have a calming effect on hens. It’s always fascinating to me to learn about and from people with such interesting careers.

When students “thinc” about a career we should really encourage them to dig deep. At the egg farm alone you have folks who care for the chicks while others primarily care for the hens. You have specialists of all sorts who are masters of their trade whether it be in processing eggs, designing, monitoring and maintaining the hen houses, or transporting the eggs to places all over the country. You have people in charge of the website and the graphic design. You have marketers and sales people. And the list goes on and on.

So for this thinc link I recommend checking out the Good Egg Project Education Station. In addition to lesson plans, activities, recipes and archives of virtual field trips to egg farms, there is a collection of videos that give you a glimpse into the inner workings of an egg farm. ”Thinc” about all the different careers you see as you watch the videos.

Chapter 10 of “Geography of India” by Prithvish Nag, Smita Sengupta discusses what geographical feature?

Would they even know where to start?

A Google a Day is a fun, free resource to help students practice their searching techniques and hone those much needed information literacy skills.

Each day the good folks at Google provide questions and challenge your students try to find the answers. And as they say, “There’s no right way to solve it, but there’s only one right answer.” It’s a great way for students to learn valuable search techniques as they have a little fun and learn a little something about the day’s questions.

3) Double check to make sure Google Hangouts are not blocked at your school. On the day of the event you will go to http://tinyurl.com/thincHangout to participate.
